Edward Lee Miller

Edward Lee Miller, 86, of Kalona passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at Pleasantview after a courageous battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Edward was born on October 5, 1939, in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Dennis M. and Elsie (Shettler) Miller. He graduated from Iowa Mennonite School in 1958 and attended Hesston College. For his 1W service, he worked in a hospital in Denver, Colorado. On June 5, 1971, he was united in marriage to Jane Boese. His employment was always in the field of agriculture, including D&H Feeds, Yoder Feeds, and Agri-King. Ed enjoyed serving and visiting with his customers. Ed was a member of East Union Mennonite Church and served in community organizations (he was a charter member of the Kalona Jaycees and a member of the Kalona Optimist Club). He enjoyed playing slow-pitch, coaching youth baseball/softball teams, and many years of umpiring. In retirement, he drove a bus route for Mid-Prairie; he also enjoyed driving M-P and IMS teams to sporting events. Ed never met a stranger and valued good conversations. He enjoyed golfing, camping, and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jane of Kalona, two children: Jill (William) Hartsock of Kalona, Iowa, and Allison (Kyle) Troyer of Kalona, Iowa, four grandchildren: Braden and Elise Hartsock, and Annie and Logan Troyer. He is survived by his sister Judy (Phil) Yoder of Iowa City, Iowa, and his brother, Dennis (Sally) Miller of The Villages, Florida, and nieces and nephews: Lance, Greg, Emily, and Aubree and their families. Preceding Ed in death were his parents and parents-in-law, Orie and Edith Boese.

Visitation will be held at East Union Mennonite Church from 4-7 pm on Friday, October 17. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 18 at East Union. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Iowa City and Pleasantview. Ed's family deeply appreciates the compassionate care provided by Hospice of Iowa City and Pleasantview.
