Edward J. "Eddie" Miller, 79, of Whiting passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, surrounded by his most cherished family at the Community Hospital, Munster. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sandy (nee Tobias); loving father of Angela Marie Miller and Eric Edward (Kris) Miller; adoring "Bapa" to his grandchildren Abigail Elizabeth Krieger, Nicholas Edward Krieger (girlfriend Reese Erin Ross), Emmaline Miller, and Madeleine Miller; dearest brother of Tina (late Michael) Abner and the late Bobby Miller; dear brother-in-law of Karen (Alan) Zimmerman; proud uncle of Kim Abner, Michael Abner, and Alan Zimmerman; best friend and life-long fishing buddy, Larry Jennings; dear friends Jerry and Sharon Moynihan and Sophie (late Mike) Gaylor; his special Cleveland Avenue friends; and his grand fur baby companions, "Oliver," "Brutus," and "Babs."
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, beginning at 11:00am at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting, concluding with a Memorial Service at 3:00pm, with the Rev. James Dvorscak., officiating. Expressions of sympathy may be shared online at

Eddie was born on June 14, 1946, to Edward and Julia (Mucha) Miller. He was a lifelong resident of Whiting and a graduate of Whiting High School, class of 1965. He earned an Associate Degree in fire science from IVY Tech (where he also taught fire science) and was a veteran of the Whiting Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT, with over 20 years of service, attaining the rank of captain. He was a member of the Whiting Fire Fighters Local 969, Sacred Heart Church, Whiting, the American Slovak Club, the Isaac Walton League, and the Whiting Lions Club for 24 years. He was a member of the iconic "Rose and Onnie's Four Deuces" bowling and softball teams and a passionate fisherman who crafted one-of-a-kind fishing poles for himself and others. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Eddie will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Whiting Food Pantry, P.O.
