In loving memory of our father, Edward Alfred Moats, 84, of Senioa, GA died on February 29, 2024 at The Reserve at Peachtree City, Georgia.
He was born September 18, 1939, in Columbus, Ohio to the late Ellsworth and Edna (Orr) Moats of Chillicothe, Ohio.
Surviving is a daughter, Laura Burgess, Senioa, Georgia; daughter Amy Blair, Clearwater, Florida; son Timothy Moats, Land-o-Lakes, Florida, and Sister, Mary Kay Reilly, Westlake, Ohio; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandsons. He was predeceased by his son, Edward Moats in 2017.
Mr. Moats grew up in Chillicothe, Ohio and was active in Boy Scouts. He earned his high school diploma from Chillicothe High School in 1957 and graduated from Ohio State University where he was member of the golf team as well as the Alpha Kappa Psi fraternity, Mu Chapter. He earned his bachelor's degree at Ohio State University in business administration in 1961 and his master's degree in business administration in 1964.
In June of 1962 he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves where he served as an artillery surveyor and was honorably discharged in February of 1968.
Mr. Moats went on to pursue a career in human resources for a number of years at Alcoa in Tifton, Georgia, relocating back to Ohio in 1972 to serve as Director of Human Resources at the George Worthington Company in Cleveland, Ohio. In 2009 Mr. Moats retired following his tenure In the banking industry.
Mr. Moats was an avid golfer and received notoriety after scoring a hole-in-one at Tanglewood Country Club on July 14, 1982.
Edward was Presbyterian and a member of Parkview Presbyterian while residing in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.
In March of 2020, Edward relocated to Buchanan, Georgia to take up residence next door to his eldest daughter, Laura Burgess. There he enjoyed spending time on the Burgess farm, interacting with the animals, golfing, taking long walks in the park, enjoying fellowship and recreation at the Tallapoosa, Georgia Senior Center, and spending time with loved ones.
Edward was a good friend to many, a loving father to his children, and a man who believed in maintaining a strong work ethic, faith, loyalty, and practical values in life. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2024 in Grandview Cemetery with Pastor James W. Grove officiating. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
