Edward Green Morgan 1932 - 2025
Edward Green Morgan, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025 at the age of 93.
Edward was born on May 5, 1932 near
Brantley, Alabama to Huey Green and Bonnie Eva Jane Morgan. His childhood days were filled with working on the family farm and attending church services and singings. He always said that one of the high points of his youth was getting to start school. His school years gave him a lifelong love of reading, which provided a strong foundation for studying the Bible. He would later follow in the footsteps of his father to become an ordained minister and pastor.
In 1952, Edward enlisted in the Navy and became an engineman, first-class (EN1). He served during the Korean War aboard several ships, most notably the ammunition ship U.S.S. Paricutin and net tender U.S.S. Mulberry. After completing his service, he attended college courses at Auburn University and later finished his A.S. degree at Pensacola Junior College. In 1957, he began working at Chemstrand (then Monsanto) in
Pensacola, Florida and continued to work there until his retirement.
One night in 1958, when visiting his family back home, Edward met a young woman named Erma Nell Sanders at a dance. A few months later, they were married at the Covington County Courthouse in Andalusia, Alabama by the very same judge that married Edward's parents.
A couple of years after they married, Edward and Nell began attending Pleasant Home Primitive Baptist Church where Edward was later ordained as a minister and served as pastor until just past his 90th birthday. Throughout this time, he also preached at numerous other primitive baptist churches, and eventually travelled to nine different states to visit other churches. Edward's steadfast faith and devotion to serving the Lord was a major cornerstone in his life. To quote Edward from a passage he wrote: "The desire of my heart is to serve him and praise him all the days of my life and finally to live with him in glory forever."
Although Edward's family, friends, and church brothers and sisters will miss him dearly, we rejoice in knowing that he has been called home to be with the Lord.
Edward was preceded in death by his mother, father, and four siblings: Bonnie Rodgers, Virginia McKay, Lillian M. Morgan, and Wayne Morgan.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Erma Nell Morgan; son Michael Morgan, daughter Vickey (Kevin) Adams, son Alex Morgan; grandchildren Kathryn (Michael) Girvan, Kyle (Joyce) Adams, Ryan (Patsy) Adams, Tiffany Morgan, Dalton Morgan, Michelle (Roger) Machlin, Kevin Hummel, and Nicole Hummel; siblings Ruby Schofield, Elaine Brown, Larry Morgan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as, church brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on January 9th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Faith Chapel Funeral Home in
Cantonment, Florida. A funeral service at Pleasant Home Primitive Baptist Church will follow on January 10th at 2:00pm.
