Edward Joseph Murphy, age 81, of Bay City, Michigan passed away peacefully Friday morning, December 30, 2022 at McLaren Bay Region with his family by his side. Edward was born February 25, 1941 in Merrill, Michigan to the late Chester T. and Bertha R. (Zientek) Murphy. After graduating from Merrill Sacred Heart Academy, he served as a medic in the United States Army Reserves. He married the former Mary Ann Kondziola on June 10, 1972 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church. His longtime career was a traveling sales representative for various hardware and industrial supply companies. Upon retiring, he enjoyed working part time at Michigan Sportsman and most recently Gill-Roy's Hardware, where he kept the staff and customers entertained.
Edward was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa-St. Stanislaus Church and 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council #4102. He spent many hours volunteering his master grilling skills for St. Stan's Polish Festival, enjoyed fishing and hunting, playing cards and lottery, summer family vacations to Tawas, and watching his grandchildren participate in their many sporting events and activities. Edward was a loyal Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and University of Michigan fan.
Edward is survived by his adoring wife of 50 years, Mary Ann Murphy; children, Michele (Terry) Gehrman, Brian Murphy, and Andrea (David) Carrier; four grandchildren, Lexie and Tyler Gehrman and Everett and Reese Carrier; sisters, Joyce Smith and Carol (Ralph) Glazier; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and friends all who will miss his kind and giving spirit. In addition to his parents, Edward was preceded in death by brothers, Patrick Murphy and Thomas Murphy; numerous brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
Visitation for Edward will take place from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at Ambrose Funeral Home, 1200 Garfield Avenue, Bay City, Michigan. A prayer vigil service and bible presentation by the Knights of Columbus Council #4102 will be held at 6:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. (in state 10:00 a.m.) Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Our Lady of Czestochowa-St. Stanislaus Church, 1503 Kosciuszko Avenue, Bay City, Michigan 48708 with Fr. Rick Filary presiding. He will be laid to rest immediately following in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may consider memorials to the "Wishes of the Family."
