Edward A. Murphy, 85 of Roosevelt, New Jersey, passed away at his home on January 17, 2024.
Edward was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. After graduating high school, he went to school for air craft mechanics and then began his career as an aircraft and power mechanic, initially working for American Airlines, then 26 years with Eastern Airlines, and then 15 years with U.S. Airways. He worked at both Newark and Philadelphia airports. Ed retired in 2006. He was also a licensed commercial pilot.
Ed was the union recording secretary of I.A.M. Local #1445 and a founding member of New Jersey Citizen Actions, an organization dedicated to fighting for the rights of New Jersey citizens. He was also chosen as New Jersey's Man of the Year the 1980's for his work.
Predeceased by his parents, Edward and Elsie Murphy of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rose D. Murphy; his son, James McKernan and his wife, Karen Simpson; his daughter, Danielle Ceceil Deliso and her husband, Eugene; and his daughter, Kathleen Murphy and her husband, David Geber. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Toni Deliso, and Lily and Rachel Geber.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday January 21, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Simplicity Funeral and Crematory Services at Glackin Chapel, 136 Morrison Avenue, Hightstown NJ.
Graveside Services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the Roosevelt Cemetery in Roosevelt, New Jersey, followed by a reception at the borough hall.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Edward's memory to New Jersey Citizen Actions by visiting In Memory Of at inmemof.org.
