Edward William Murray Sr., 87 of
Hopedale, OH, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at WVU Medicine – Weirton Medical Center under the care of the staff with the assistance of Valley Hospice with his dear family by his side.
Ed was born on April 17, 1938 in
Steubenville, OH. He was the son of the late John William Murray and Mabel (Lehman) Murray.
He began his working career at Grabbits Saw Mill in Cherry Valley, Ohio. He also drove coal trucks for different companies. Then he worked at the Hancock Manufacturing in Toronto, Ohio, where he worked for 14 years alongside his sister, Verna. Edward met the love of his life, Lydia Marie Lassan, at Harry's Dairy Bar, beginning a beautiful marriage that lasted 65 years. He later worked for German Township for 32 years maintaining 33 miles of township roads.
Ed will be remembered as a hardworking and dedicated man who never stopped working, he was known as a "workaholic." In retirement, he enjoyed maintaining the Murray Family Farm as a hobby. He was also deeply devoted to his faith in Jehovah God and faithfully attended and witnessed as a member of the Cadiz Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Lydia Marie (Lassan) Murray, four siblings, Frank Murray, Betty Hughes, Verna Saltsman, and Lily Devore.
Ed is survived by his five children, Sherry Ragets and her spouse, Stanley, April Jackson, and Polly Murray, all of
Hopedale, OH, Tammy Tuckosh and her spouse, Doug of Amsterdam, OH, Edward William Murray Jr. of
Hopedale, OH, seven grandchildren, Stanley Ragets and his spouse, Kelly of Utah. Matthew Ragets and his spouse, Kayla of Cadiz, OH, Mark Ragets of Weston, WV, Mikayla Jackson of
Hopedale, OH, Kaleah Jackson of Cleveland, OH, Jesse Tuckosh and his spouse, Mayme of Omaha, NE, and John Tuckosh of Amsterdam, OH, one sibling, John Murray and his spouse, Shirley, all of Cadiz, OH , and several nieces and nephews.
Ed's family would like to personally thank the staff of WVU Weirton Medical Center, the 8th floor, for their compassionate care of our dad. They would like to send a special thank you to Keara, Tammy, Susan, and Jen for all the assistance and care they provided for our dad. We would also like to thank the caring staff of Valley Hospice.
Per the wishes of Ed and family, there will not be any services.
