Edward Carl Nelson, 83, of Abbeville, SC, husband of Anita Boursier Nelson, died Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at the Hospice of the Upstate, Rainey Hospice & Palliative Care. He was born in Warwick, RI to the late Carl Nelson and Rosella Clifford Nelson.
Affectionately known as ‘Ed Too Tall’. Mr. Nelson graduated from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School, Class of 1963 and proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his naval career, he worked with the Warwick Police Department from 1965 – 1968 before fulfilling a call to join the Warwick Fire Department in 1971. His tenure there lasted until his retirement in 1977. Mr. Nelson’s commitment to service extended beyond his professional life; he was actively involved in the Vets Helping Vets Anderson chapter, where he made significant contributions to his fellow veterans. Throughout his life, Mr. Nelson enjoyed various hobbies, particularly fishing and camping, which provided him with much joy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Anita, of the home; son, Scott Nelson and his fiancée, Carrie Connor, of Spring Hill, FL; daughter, Kristina Taylor and her husband, David, of Abbeville, SC; brother, Robert ‘Buzz’ Nelson of Rhode Island; three grandchildren, Christopher, Nikole, and Kassidy; and one great-granddaughter, Charli.
A service to celebrate Mr. Nelson’s life will be 11:00AM, Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at Harris Funeral Home, 302 N. Main Street, Abbeville, SC 29620 with military honors. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Mr. Nelson, may be sent to the Warwick Rhode Island Fire Department, Station 1, 111 Veterans Memorial Dr, Warwick, RI 02886.
