Edward Oates Obituary
He was born on July 17, 1953 in Taylorville, IL to Edward Alex Oates, Sr and Rose Marie (nee: Griffin) Cooper.
Edward married Magdalene Levy in Granite City, IL on September 27, 1997.
The U.S. Army veteran was an Army Ranger with the 10th Mountain Division. After his military service, Edward worked for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of the American Legion who enjoyed painting, golfing and fishing. Edward was very passionate about music and his dog, Theo. He loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues with his grandsons and watching his son playing soccer and basketball.
Edward is survived by his wife; 2 daughters: Jennifer Oates-Lignoul of Granite City and Jessica (Gabriel) Karabell of St. Louis; a son, Colin Oates of Granite City; 3 grandchildren: Jacob Lignoul, Josh Lignoul and Esther Anna Karabell; a great granddaughter, Olive Lignoul; an uncle and aunt, Mike & Jan Griffin and other extended family and friends.
Besides his parents, Edward is preceded in death by a sister, Vicky Oates and a grandson, Joseph Schoolfield..
An inurnment will be held at a later date at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.
