Edward Allen Oberg

Edward Allen Oberg, a dedicated farmer and rancher, passed away on August 31, 2024 on his farm, in Farnam, Nebraska. Born on April 20, 1947 Ed's life was marked by a strong commitment to God, his family, community, and land he cherished.

A proud alumnus of Farnam High School, Ed graduated in 1965 before furthering his education at McPherson College, where he earned an Associate’s degree in Business and attended Bethany Nazarene College, where he obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Business. On June 18, 1971 he married Laura Wilson.

Throughout his life, Ed was an active member of his church and community. He was member of the Farnam Nazarene Church and participated in various organizations, including the American Legion, VFW, the local school board, and the Co-op Board. Ed was also a member of the Lions Club, where he contributed positively to community initiatives. His passion for vintage machinery was evident, as he had a special affinity for old tractors.

Ed honorably served his country in the Army, stationed in Baumholder, Germany, for two and a half years and was recognized with a Quilt of Valor, an honor bestowed upon veterans who have exhibited service and sacrifice.

Ed's legacy is sustained by his loving family, which includes his wife, Laura Oberg, and his children: son, Michael (Holli) Oberg of Farnam, Nebraska, and daughter, Sara (CJ) Pfannenstiel of Rush Center, Kansas. He is also survived by three brothers, Roger (Nancy), of Farnam, Dick (Karen) Oberg of Axtell, Nebraska, Jeff (Dynette) Oberg of Farnam, Nebraska, and along with his sister, Louise Jones of Colorado Springs, Colorado; sister-in-law Barb Oberg, of Kearney, brothers-in-law, Roger Wilson, of Gothenburg, Gene Wilson, of Newkirk, OK; and Jerry Wilson, and six grandchildren whom he adored, Skyler and Ethan Oberg, Denton, Easton, Paisley and Casen Pfannenstiel.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ruby Oberg; his brother, Don Oberg; and several brothers-in-law, including Dave Jones, Dean Wilson, and Gary Wilson, nephew, Chad Oberg, nieces, Allison Oberg, and Amber Wilson.

Visitation will be held on September 4, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg, Nebraska, with the family present from 4:00-6:00 pm.

Funeral service will take Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 10:30 AM, Farnam Church of the Nazarene, 401 Antelope, Farnam, NE with Pastor Cliff Transmeier and Dynette Oberg officiating.

Burial will follow at the Farnam Cemetery.

Ed Oberg’s absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. His contributions to his family and community serve as a testament to a life well-lived, and he will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched.
