Edward "Buck" Putney

Edward C. "Buck" Putney, Jr., 82, of Rye, died November 4, 2023 at Webster at Rye after a brief period of declining health.

Buck was born in Manchester on March 8, 1941 to Edward and Jane (Mendzela) Putney. He lived in Manchester for many years before moving to Rye 30 years ago with his wife, Dona.

Buck had worked at Foster Beef Company, Concord Beef Company, Associated Grocers and Beacon Van Lines. He was a dedicated, hard-working man.

In his spare time, Buck coached baseball with Manchester North Little League and hockey with the Manchester Flames. He was beloved by the athletes under his coaching. Buck also enjoyed clam digging, refinishing antique trunks, going to yard sales and driving around NH with his longtime friend, George Barbaro, which continued up until the time of his death. Buck especially enjoyed attending sporting and school-related events that involved his children and grandchildren.

Buck was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Dona (Fresco) Putney in 2010 and by a sister, Jane Putney in 2011.

Buck is survived by four children, Elizabeth Smith and her husband, Michael, of Hampton, Catherine Dawson and her husband, Scott, of Newington, Christopher Putney of Rye and Sarah Summerlin of Concord; three grandchildren, Alexander Smith and his wife, Jenna, of Windham, Elizabeth Summerlin of Florence, Italy and Charlotte Summerlin of Concord; two great grandsons, Mack Smith and Bryce Smith both of Windham; two siblings, John "Jack" Putney and his wife, Suzette, of Bedford and Thomas Putney and his wife, Sharon, of Milford and several nieces and nephews

SERVICES: Calling hours are Thursday (11/9) from 2 to 4 p.m. followed immediately at 4 p.m. by a funeral ceremony, all at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester.
