What an incredibly kind man! In my mind for the rest of my life (especially raising my own children) Mr. Sample forever set my view of what a Principal should look like! Admittedly, I spent some additional one on one time with him in his office. He always seemed to smile with a twinkle and speak patiently trying to correct my behavior! May the Lord grant his entire family and friends with His peace and comfort! Thank you, Mr. Sample, for your seven years of love and mentoring. A true Avon Lake and Redwood School treasure!

My sincere condolences. I am 66 years old and there's a lot I don't remember. But I do have fond memories of Mr Sample as a teacher at Westview and a principle at Redwood. The kindest man, a patient teacher and a wonderful role model to everyone who knew him.

My all time favorite teacher! Compassionate and kind to everyone. A naturally gifted teacher. A very special human being.

Mr. Sample was one of the best! I enjoyed the time I worked with him and the conversations we would have when running in to him at various times around Avon Lake. He was a wonderful man and always had a smile on his face. Never seemed to run out of energy. He will be missed. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Sat near to Ed for years as season ticket holders at Shoremen football games. Our seats were in the very last row at the top of the new stadium against the press box. Even well into his eighties, he would scramble up those steps with no problem while people 40 years younger were winded by the time they got to the top. Always enjoyed his stories of Avon Lake past and was impressed by the steady stream of former students that came by to say hello. He was a wonderful human being and a great role model. Heaven just become a better place.....

Ed was the best instructor at the Avon YMCA! Helped so many to use the exercise machines the correct way. Always encouraging and so much fun to talk to. Missed him everyday he wasn't there!

Ed Sample had the biggest and kindest personality! He put his hands and heart into any task he did, and invited everyone around him to do the same. It was a grace to know him as a principal, and then so many years later as an advisor at the Y. Avon Lake will miss this fine man.

I just loved Ed. He was the best principal I have ever worked for. He was always kind, fair and supportive! We all had a wonderful life together at Redwood with your father at the helm. I will miss seeing him around Avon Lake. My deepest sympathy to his family...I'm sure this is a devastating loss.

So glad my Mum & I ran into Mr. Sample & his daughter at Perkins. Just loved him as principle @ Redwood for our kids and a colleague @ALHS always holding the fitness room door unlocked to let me in around 7am. He was so personable and a lovely man.
