Memorial services for Edward Ollie Sanderson Jr., will be held Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. at Rose-Neath Funeral Home, 1815 Marshall St., Shreveport, Louisiana, 71101. A visitation will take place from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at Rose-Neath Funeral Home.
Edward was born May 5, 1943 to Erving Ollie Sanderson and Emma Jane Truex in Springfield, Missouri and passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
He was a kind, generous, and hardworking man who loved to laugh and make others laugh. He was always open to getting to know everyone and making new friends. Comfortable in any setting, he had a signature smirk that told those that knew him that he was about to start teasing someone he cared about. He started working first as a door-to-door salesman and later in manufacturing at both Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind and later Louisiana Association for the Blind. He always took care of his family and did his best to raise his children to be good people. Edward has been completely blind since 1986, but he didn’t let that stop him from working every day and being quite creative and inventive, even at home. If there was a problem, he could rig up some device to solve it, usually while listening to sports on the radio.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Doris; second wife, Margaret; daughter, Connie and siblings, Vivian, Richard and Susan. He is survived by his daughters, Victoria and Elizabeth; sisters, Janet and Marylyn; brother, Carl and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an amazing man, and a gentle giant who will be greatly missed by friends and family.
