I am so blessed to have known Eddie and Lucy while they lived at Devonshire, and after Lucy passed to have dined often together with Eddie and Shirley. He was loved by all of us who knew him.

Loss of this great man reminds me of warmth to a young kid working in his boys shop on Greenwich ave. My first job! My mother adored him.

Susan my condolences to you and your family. While your dad was a great retailer more importantly, he was a real gentleman and family man. I recall the day he introduced us in the store "he was beaming from ear to ear", he was so Proud of you and so excited to have you working alongside him.
Eddie always gracious, greeted with a sincere warm welcome along with his "infectious smile".
He made you feel special.
A life well lived.

Susan, condolences on the passing of your father. He, not the store, was an institution on lower Greenwich Avenue for decades. Along with John and Frank they made every shopper feel special. One thing I'll never forget is how he had time for everyone who came into the store, a gift worth remembering. Celebrate the man you got to call your father, he's more than deserving. Peace!

Mr. Schachter was a wonderful & kind person & retailer. In 1956 when I was 13 yrs. old, we were living on Greenwich Ave. across from his first store. We became loyal customers. Over the years, we followed him to his other locations on The Avenue. I have good memories of his pleasant manner. May he Rest In Peace.

Eddie was one of a kind. I'll never forget the Eddie Schacter tennis tournament at the Newfield Swim Club and hours spent on his private court with Len Gold, Jack Goldberg, Bob Rabinowitz and others. I remember he bought a Tesla, hated it and went back to his old Mercedes. He also hired my late brother-in-law Bob Buxenbaum when he lost his job due to a merger. Now at 91, my tennis career is over but I'll always cherish those happy hours spent playing doubles with Eddie and the gang.
