Edward R. Schmitt, 88, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 4, 2024 at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 25, 1935 in Poseyville, Indiana, the son of Joseph and Geneva (Ziliak) Schmitt.
Ed will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather and friend to many. Ed owned and operated Edward R. Schmitt Accounting where he worked for sixty years. He was a proud lifetime member of our Mt. Carmel Eagles 3066; serving as secretary for twenty-eight years and became a Golden Eagle at the age of eighty-six. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Ed will be remembered by his son, Jeff Schmitt and wife, Vickie; daughter, Pamela Jerrell and husband, Clark; two step sons, Billy and Mike Peach; step daughter, Renee Pearson; four grandchildren, Christy (Jason) Satava, Michael (LeAnne Burns) Schmitt, Clark (Amanda) Jerrell III, and Shaun (Crystal) Jerrell; twelve great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose (Dave) Vincent and Mary Winiger.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; children, Larry Gene Schmitt, and Michael R. Schmitt; brothers, Thomas, Fred, Kenny, Paul and Marvin Schmitt.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Memorial Visitation from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2024 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 12:00 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2024 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Father Robert Zwilling officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ed's memory to St. Mary Catholic Church. Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
