Marvin Douglas Schmitt of Akron, Michigan, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 12, 2026 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw. He was born October 6, 1949 in Saginaw, Michigan, the youngest son of Frederick Charles and Ferndale (Yax) Schmitt. Marvin was the youngest boy of 10 children attending Reese schools and graduating from Vassar High School. He worked as a truck driver for Holzhei Farms and Self-Serve Lumber Company. Marvin was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving from 1970 to 1973 as an MP in Vietnam. He loved to spend time with his family, going to the casino and having a good barbecue.

Surviving family include his daughters, Pamela McIntosh, Tammy (Demerus) Gist and Stacy (Jay) Haymaker; granddaughters, Ashley (Ryan) Godard, Jade Schmitt and Mya Gist; great grandchildren, Alexis and Andrew Godard as well as many nieces and nephews. Marvin was predeceased by both his parents; brothers, Lloyd, Cecil, Philip, Eugene, Milton and Charles; sisters, Jackie, Janet and a baby sister, Jane and son in law, Michael McIntosh.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026 at the Penzien Steele Funeral Home in Vassar. TracyLynn Cox officiating. The family will greet friends on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the wishes of the family (c/o of Pamela McIntosh) or a charity of the donor's choice. Private interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.

The Schmitt Family wishes to express a heartfelt Thank You to the Covenant CVICU for their extraordinary care of Marvin.
