Ed married and is survived by Thelma Jean Prosser. They were married on September 3, 1960, in Pittsford, Michigan. He retired from M & S Manufacturing after several years as a machinist. During this time, Ed and his family farmed over 500 acres of crops. Ed and Thelma also owned and operated Smitty's Sports Center in Hudson for over 16 years. Ed and Thelma loved sharing their passion; numerous people learned the enjoyment of hunting, archery and fishing from them. Ed taught hunter's safety courses and was a member of the Morenci Sportsman Club.
Left to honor the memory of Ed are his wife, Thelma Smith; children, Bonnie Newton, Lisa (Destry) Dunlap, Tonie (Christopher) Luma, and Scott (Abbie) Smith; 9 grandchildren, Nichole (John) Dickerson, Marianne (Karl) Wagendorf, Amanda (Ross) Allison, Sarah (Zach) Phillips, Erin Luma, Bradley (Ashley) Dunlap, Zachary Luma, Courtney Luma and Allison Armstrong; 7 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Patricia (Edward) Sanders, Nancy Quibble, Sherry (John) Clark and a brother, Randy (Nancy) Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harley (Cookie) Smith; a grandson, Hunter Smith; a son-in-law, James Newton; and a brother-in-law, Gene Quibble.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home in Hudson, on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life will start at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Elton Spurgeon officiating. Private Burial of cremains will take place at Prattville Cemetery in Prattville.
Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Friends can express sympathies to the family online by visiting the tribute wall at www.brownvanhemert.com. Arrangements have been made with the guidance of the Brown-Van Hemert Funeral Home, Hudson.
