Edward L. Story II, 81, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Sunday, November 23, 2025. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 28, 2025, at LaGrone Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors' Coulter Road Chapel. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, from 5-7 pm.
Edward was born on December 22, 1943, to Edward Lee Story Sr. and Earline Howard in Bauxite, Arkansas. From a young age, he found his calling in the craft of upholstery. By the time he was eighteen, he had already begun shaping a lifelong career that would become Story’s Custom Upholstery, a business he faithfully owned and operated for 30 years. His hands created beauty and comfort, and his work touched countless homes and families throughout the community.
In 1993, he answered a new calling and began serving as a correctional officer at the TDCJ–Clements Unit, proudly working in the 12 Building for two decades. During his 20 years of service, he earned the respect of his peers and the gratitude of his community, receiving honorary commendations from both the Mayor and the Prison Warden upon his retirement.
On December 14, 1962, he married the love of his life, Mary L. Story, and together they shared 63 years of unwavering devotion. He was a devoted Christian, husband, father, and grandfather, always placing his faith and his family at the center of everything he did. He was a longtime member of First Family Church, where his quiet strength and gentle spirit were deeply cherished.
He enjoyed the simple joys that made life rich—traveling, photography, exploring history, and spending time with those he loved most. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the love he gave, and the countless lives he touched with kindness and integrity.
Edward was preceded in death by his mother, Earline Howard Story; his father, Edward Lee Story and his sisters, Margie Story Rice, Louise Monfort and Velma Massey.
Survivors left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary L. Story; his sisters, Barbara Hudson and Caroline Griffin; his children, John Story and wife, Linda, Jerry Story, Jimmy Story and wife, Renee, Julie Story Hudgens and husband, Jesse; his 5 grandchildren, 3 bonus grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
