The family of Edward A.Sweeny, 81, of Rouses Point, NY, announces that he passed away peacefully March 22, 2026, in Plattsburgh, NY. He was born in St. Albans, VT, December 16, 1944, to Robert and Dorothy (Platt) Sweeny. Ed worked for many years at Magnavox/Phillips/Hughes Electronics in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as the benefits manager.

Ed loved hockey and his favorite team was the Detroit Red Wings. His favorite baseball team was the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played softball and baseball well into his 30's. He had a special gift of remembering baseball statistics. Ed had season tickets for the IHL in Fort Wayne, Indiana.He graduated from Immaculate Heart School in Watertown, NY. He received an undergraduate and graduate degrees in French from the Universite' Laval in Quebec City.

He is survived by his brother R. Michael Sweeny and spouse Nicole, his sisters Maureen Brewster and Eileen Guise and spouse James, his step-children, Garry Hite and spouse Sheryl, Noell Loe, and Jason Hite, his neices and nephews Keri Guise and spouse Billy and daughter Alyssa, Scott Guise and spouse Heather and their sons Jesse, Dylan, Derek, and Jeremy, Quinn Sweeny, Adam Sweeny, and Ryan Mills and spouse Danni-Lynn and their son Westin, and several cousins.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Dorothy Sweeny, his uncles, John (Jack) Sweeny, Alan (Spike) Sweeny , Philip Sweeny (Helen), Robert Platt (Collette) his brother-in-law Robert Brewster, his neice Cristin Cleary-Mills, his former wife, Donna Sweeny, and cousin Laura (Norris).

The family wishes to thank Sue Hack for the wonderful care and love she gave to Ed, and special friends Jim and Maribeth Welch. You are all honorary family to us.

Interment will take place at a later date in the Sweeny family lot in Holy Cross Cemetery, St. Albans, VT.

As an alternative to flowers, memorials may be made in his name to, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
