Shutesbury, MA - Edward "Ed" J. Vendette, Jr., 86, of Shutesbury, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, quiet strength, and deep love for his family.

He was born in Amherst, MA on July 13, 1939, to Florence (Page) Vendette and Edward J. Vendette. Ed attended local schools and graduated from Amherst Regional High School. In his younger years, he worked at the Amherst Bowling Alley setting pins, always trying not to get hit by flying bowling balls - a job he often recalled with humor.

He later went on to build a long career as a Construction Superintendent, taking pride in his work and dedication to every project he oversaw. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady leadership, and the respect he earned from those who worked alongside him.

Ed enjoyed cutting cord wood and spending time working on his property, finding peace in the outdoors and satisfaction in keeping things well cared for. He took pride in a life of hard work, independence, and home.

Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mary (Fuller) Vendette. Together they built a life rooted in commitment, faithfulness, and family - a partnership that stood as an inspiration to many.

Ed leaves behind his son, Edward (Carmaline) Vendette; and his daughter, Gail (Kenneth) Thomas. He was a proud grandfather to Jennifer (Toby) DeJarnatt, Michael (Jessica) Thomas, Katie Murphey, and Christine and Shawn Depault. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Erin Murphey, and brothers Ben and Will Depault, all of whom brought him great joy.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Carol Fern and Linda Loven, and leaves behind his sisters Elizabeth Loven and Pauline Lego, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 22, from 11 AM – 1 PM at Douglass Funeral Home, 87 North Pleasant Street, Amherst, MA. A private burial will take place at a later date.

Ed will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his kindness, and the enduring example he set for those who knew him.
