Edward James Vincek

Edward "Eddie" James Vincek, born September 19, 1924, in Saratoga Springs, NY, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025. He was 100 years old. Eddie dedicated his life to taking care of his family, serving as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Eddie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 77 years, Mary Roth Vincek, father, George J. Vincek, mother, Kristina Gavenda Vincek, siblings, Mildred, Irene, George (6 years old), George J. Jr., and Cecilia Swartwout; his grandson, Gregory Taylor, and son-in-law, Russell Gwynn. Eddie leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be carried on by his surviving family, including his son, Ed Vincek (Nancy); daughters, Mary Taylor (Emory) and Anne Gwynn; grandchildren, Tommy Gwynn (Shaina), Eddie Vincek (Meggan), Danny Vincek (Kaleigh); four great-grandchildren, Liam and Declan Gwynn and Luke and Penny Vincek; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. Eddie was a faithful member of Saint Mary Catholic Church, Charter Member of Grassfield Ruritan Club for 69 years, U. S. Marine Corps World War II Veteran, survivor of Iwo Jima. He retired from Globe Iron Construction Company after 42 years. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, was a dedicated blood donor, avid gardener, he loved to travel and was very dedicated to his community. A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and remember Eddie's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 536 Homestead Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23321. Following the Mass, he will be laid to rest in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. Eddie's family will receive friends on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 4:00-8:00 pm at Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, 653 Cedar Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23322.
