Ed Wilde passed away at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud November 11, 2024 at the age of 81. Edward Delton Wilde was born June 7, 1943 to Delton and Rhoda (Swenson) Wilde in Bagley, Minnesota, he grew up on the family farm.
In 1961, Ed graduated from high school and enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years. Upon discharge he returned to Minnesota and worked on the iron ore ships in Duluth.
In 1967, Ed re-enlisted in the United States Navy and served until 1972. During his time in the Navy, Ed worked as a Boiler Technician (BT) on multiple destroyer ships in the Pacific Ocean. He was also a Vietnam Veteran and was proud to have served his country. After his years in the US Navy, Ed started working as a boiler operator at the Plymouth Building.
In 1974, Ed married Shirley Shoemaker and together they had two children, Ronald and Charlotte. Ed and his family lived in Spring Lake Park. In 1984, Ed began working for Foster Wheeler as a boiler operator at the heating plant for the University of Minnesota. Ed made many friends while working there and stayed in contact with quite a few of them until the day he passed.
In 1994, Ed married Susan (Cummings) Bock. He enjoyed helping Sue raise her Boston Terriers and he loved his favorite dog, Clyde. Ed was known for making people laugh and would help others out whenever they were in need. In 2007, Ed retired from Foster Wheeler and enjoyed his time away from work. He spent a lot of time visiting with family and friends, driving family to appointments, church, and gatherings. He enjoyed playing cards, watching westerns, game shows, and listening to classic country music. More recently while residing at the St. Cloud VA Health Care Center, you could find him doing activities or visiting with other veterans, nurses, and other staff.
Ed is survived by his wife of 30 years, Susan; son Ronald (Elaine) Wilde; daughter Charlotte Gunnufson (Scott Cameron); step-son Michael (Cindy) Bock; step-daughter, Wendy Bock (Troy Shermer); grandchildren Cory, Theresa, Michael, Brennen, Blake, Stephanie, Tiffanie, Skyler, Emily, Ariel, Erica, Shawna; brother-in-law Curt (Theresa) Cummings; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents Delton and Rhoda (Swenson) Wilde; father/mother-in-law Walter and Elsie (Holmstrom) Cummings; siblings Kenneth Wilde, Delphine Newland, infant brother; son-in-law Jack Gunnufson; brothers-in-law Garfield Newland, Charles Cummings, Gary Cummings, Kenneth Cummings, Alvin Cummings; sister-in-law Genice Cummings.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held 1-4 PM; Saturday, December 7, 2024 at the Pine City VFW, when we will gather to celebrate a life that was filled with love, laughter, and countless memories.
