William Edward Williams, Sr., 92, passed away at his home on Friday, November 17, 2023, in Olive Branch. A visitation will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following at 12:00 p.m., all at Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch. Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Edward was born to the late Senator George Edward and Maggie Dunn Doddridge Williams in Olive Branch, MS. After graduating from Olive Branch High School, he joined and proudly served in the United States Army as Corporal. Throughout his life, he spent most of his time farming and raising cattle. Later in life, he worked for the Pleasant Hill Water Association, which he helped establish and organize. He was also a member of the Desoto County Planning Commission. It was stated that the only hobby Mr. Edward really had was to work, of which he thoroughly enjoyed. He was devoted to his family, church, and community, supporting and helping in any way he could. He was also a faithful member and Deacon at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Edward is survived by his sons, Bill (Connie) Williams and Paul (Susan) Williams, both of Olive Branch; grandchildren, Nancy (Troy) Zeidman of Nashville, TN, J. Eric (Lindsey) Williams of Olive Branch, John David (Mary Margaret) Williams of Olive Branch, and Benjamin E. Williams of Fort Bragg, NC; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby Williams of Olive Branch; and sister, Patricia Nichols of Olive Branch.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Sowell Williams; parents, Senator George Edward and Maggie Dunn Doddridge Williams; and siblings, Margaret McIntosh, Lee Williams, Joe Williams, Steve Williams, and Dot Munn.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of William Edward Williams can be made to The Marjorie Sowell Williams Endowed Scholarship in care of Northwest Mississippi Community College Foundation (P.O. Box 7015 Senatobia, MS 38668).
