Edward Lavern Williams was born on January 8, 1930, and passed from this life on September 12, 2025. He lived a life rich in service, community, adventure, and love.

A true outdoorsman, Edward found joy in hunting, fishing, and traveling. If there was an opportunity to be outside, Edward took it. His passion for nature extended into decades of service as a dedicated Boy Scout leader for over 40 years. From canoeing the Illinois River to teaching wilderness skills, and most importantly, offering guidance and a listening ear, Edward played a vital role in helping countless young men grow into capable, compassionate adults.

He was a proud member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, where he took on the meaningful role of assisting with cemetery duties. Edward also had a deep interest in genealogy and was proud to discover his Norwegian heritage.

Professionally, Edward worked as a manager in a lumber yard, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Outside of work, he was a talented bowler, participating in numerous leagues and receiving numerous awards that reflected his competitive spirit. He also loved square dancing and was actively involved in his church, Eastern Avenue Baptist Church.

In 1950, Edward married the love of his life, Elizabeth, and together they shared an incredible 73 years of marriage - a beautiful testament to their devotion and partnership.

Edward treasured time with family. Family nights filled with food and games were among his favorite traditions. However, anyone who played against him knew to bring their A-game, whether it was cards or board games, Edward's competitive streak made him a cutthroat opponent.

He is survived by his daughter, Judith Lynn Williams-Murphy, and her husband, Bob Murphy; his son, Ted D. Williams, and his wife, Mary; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Dawn, Sonja, Natalie, Kevin, and Scott as well as Angie and her husband, Robert Kronenberg, and Mike Woodley and his wife, Tamrha; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Edward is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Elizabeth Williams, and his parents, Willis Lafayette Williams and Josephine Bertina Williams.

Edward's legacy of service, integrity, and family devotion lives on in all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
