Edward Doyle Younger, known fondly as Doyle, Uncle Doyle and many other nicknames to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, in
Diana, Texas. Born on March 13, 1933, in the quiet community of
James, Texas, Doyle lived a full and vibrant life that spanned 92 years, marked by dedication to his family, service to his country, service to his community and a deep-rooted faith. Doyle was a man whose life was built on the foundations of hard work and Christian values. After proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army, he spent most of his working life with the Army Corps of Engineers. As a supervisor, Doyle was instrumental in the construction of the dam and the development and upkeep of Lake 'O the Pines, a job that he approached with passion and excellence until his retirement. If you ever visited any facility at Lake 'O the Pines, odds are that Doyle could claim "I built that!" But his job with the Corps was not his only job. As self proclaimed "mayor" of the area in which Doyle lived, Doyle felt it was his duty to know everything and fix everything. Nearly everyone within Doyle's area of influence, whenever they had a question or a problem, didn't "Call Doyle"! He could build or fix anything and would willingly help you no matter the situation. His commitment to his work was only surpassed by his devotion to his faith. A founding member of Lone Oak Baptist Church in Jefferson, Doyle lived his Christianity with every action and through his service to the church community. Family was the cornerstone of Doyle's life. He was preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Mattie Dell (Honnoll) Younger, and his second wife, Shirley (Fries) Younger, as well as his parents, Allen Verle and Lois Irene Younger, and his siblings, Roy Alvin Younger, Janie Allene Newman, and Eunice Laverne Stephens. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his sons, Dennis Younger, and his wife, Sharon, David Younger, and his wife, Debbie; his daughter, Cathy Johnson, and her husband, Johnny. Doyle's legacy continues through his grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Melissa, Brian, Matthew, Amanda, Jeremy, and Ashley, his brother, Aaron Younger, and his wife, Marylane; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other family members who will miss him deeply. Doyle's life was not only defined by his service and family but also by his passions. He was a man who found great joy in the simplicity of nature. His love for his cows, farming, camping, fishing, and just being a "Jack of all Trades" were well-known to those who were close to him. These hobbies were not just pastimes but ways in which he connected with the world around him and shared his love for life with his family and friends. The life of Edward Doyle Younger was one of purpose, love, laughter and faith. As we remember Doyle, we celebrate a man who was a pillar of strength, a source of wisdom, and a beacon of kindness. His life was a testament to the enduring power of hard work, the importance of family, and the profound impact of a life well-lived. Doyle's influence will continue to be felt through the lives of those who knew him, and his memory will be treasured forever. His was a life that truly made a difference, and he will be remembered with love and respect by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
