Edwardo Hernandez, 42, entered eternal rest on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.
He was born on December 26, 1978, to Antonio Hernandez Jr., and Rosalinda Vasquez Hernandez of Weslaco. He was the second child of four born to Mr. and Mrs. Hernandez.
Eddie was the son of migrant workers, who traveled up north to work the fields of Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Missouri during their summers. Eddie experienced this life and at the age of 9 or 10 was also taken to work the fields (el azadon) with his parents and older brother. They left him at the head of a field of rows so that he could watch and learn how the work was done. As the morning turned into noon his family came back from the far side of the fields to join him for lunch, only to find that he had eaten all the lunch. That was the last field encounter Eddie would have and was since sent to care for his two younger siblings at home. He attended school and would care for his little brother and sister, helping them with their homework and cooking dinner for them.
Eddie is a graduate from Weslaco High School class of 1998. In school, Eddie was easy going and made many friends, that quickly became family. Being the adventurer that he was, right after high school, he and one of his best friends Riley left home to work on the barges off the coast of Louisiana. They became welder apprentices and found work on oil rigs. Upon returning to Texas, Eddie found seasonal work at Pioneer Seed Company where he worked on palletizing seed and enrolled in TSTC in the Draft and Design program. While attending college, he found part-time work at Magic Valley Electric Company as a GPS collector and then full-time as a Meter Technician. He worked for MVEC for 10 years.
In 1999, at TSTC, he met Monica his future wife, although she did not know it yet. They dated from 2003 until they married in 2005. Their marriage was full of adventure and outdoors. Their love of horses and farm life led to purchasing land in Sebastian, TX and La Amistad Ranch was born. They entertained and welcomed family and friends whenever they had the chance. They participated and hosted numerous trail rides on their ranch. Countless birthdays and holidays were celebrated at La Amistad Ranch.
Eddie will be best remembered as a man who was humble, kind, and full of life. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and when time permitted you would find him hunting on a piece of land or fishing right off the coast somewhere. His work ethic was only mirrored by his generosity. Where there was help needed you would find him there, lending a hand where he could. His motivation was driven by the need to always Hecharle Ganas. He carried his heart on his sleeve. If you ever received a phone call at 4am or 5am from him, it was just to remind you that, one- you were burning day light, two- To thank God for blessing us with another day, and three- Breakfast was calling.
He is survived by his wife, Monica Hernandez, son, Dylan Edwardo Hernandez, father, Antonio Hernandez Jr., mother, Rosalinda Hernandez, siblings, Antonio Hernandez III (Rosalia), Luis Hernandez (Nora), Patricia Ann Rivera (Noe), and nieces and nephews, Ashley Kay, Antonio IV, Diego, Gissel, Rosy, Kaylie, Michael, Makeyla, Ryan, Cassandra, Odalys, Crystal, Kassie, Luisito, Celena, Angel (+), Noe Rivera Jr, Misael Rivera, and Ariana Noemi Rivera.
Eddie is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Teresa Moreno, maternal grandfather, Francisco Vasquez, and maternal grandmother, Tomasita Vasquez.
