Edwin Beck Jr. of Braintree, formerly of Waltham, MA, passed away on July 20, 2025, at the age of 91. Born and raised in Waltham, Ed graduated from Waltham High School as a three-sport star. He continued his athletic career at the University of Vermont. He was an All-Yankee Conference and All-New England halfback. The 1971 UVM Hall of Fame inductee captained both Football and Baseball. Although he was best known for his exploits on the gridiron, Ed was also a standout on the baseball field. He received the Charles Stroh Trophy for his will to win and the Semans Trophy for his outstanding qualities of leadership. After college Ed was a teacher and guidance counselor at Braintree High School as well as a Head Football Coach. His passion for the game was demonstrated throughout his career and in his success on the field.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, teacher, mentor and friend, Ed will be greatly missed by all those who were blessed to have known him. Ed was predeceased by the love of his life, Patricia Beck, loving father of Edwin C. Beck and his wife Cathy of Penfield, NY, Vikki Greenwood of Plymouth, Susan Molloy of Brockton, Gary Beck and his wife Donna of Venice, FL, eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Brother of Beverly Tasker, Marsha Gillespie and the late George Beck and Carol Marcantonio. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, students, former players and friends. Ed gained many friends at Allerton House over the past four years. The family will be forever grateful for the loving care provided by Allerton House and the Welch family who made his final years fulfilling and comfortable.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a visitation period on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 4pm to 7pm at the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home-South, 809 Main Street, Weymouth, MA. A funeral service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Braintree Football Booster Club, 45 Merritt Ave Braintree, MA 02184.
