Edwin John Blaha Jr., born September 19, 1957, in
Cleveland, Ohio, died peacefully on January 16, 2026, in
Parma, Ohio. He was a man full of heart, whose passions were deeply rooted in nature and family. Those who knew Ed knew a laugh like no other. They also knew that a visit around his kitchen table would most definitely leave one to ponder his unique philosophies and perspectives for days, weeks, or even years on end. He was a man of humility, always giving what he could to those that were in need, whether it be a bit of advice about landscaping, a jar of his homemade salsa, or a much-needed harmonica. Edwin prided himself on never owning a cell phone or a computer. He was a practical man that cherished a day of hard work that was always followed by ice-cold beers, good conversation, and a home-cooked meal made by his devoted wife, Mary Jane.
Edwin and Mary Jane met at The Ohio State University in 1976 where they both studied Horticulture. Together, they moved back to the Cleveland area where Edwin then went on to spend his career as a professional landscaper. He was a genius at his craft, and his legacy can be found scattered about the Cleveland area in the form of beautifully constructed stone walls, pathways, and landscapes. Aside from his career, he was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing trips with his buddies. He loved hiking and exploring the local woods with his children when they were young. He also loved vegetable gardening, especially growing the tomatoes and peppers which ended up in the jars of his famous, homemade salsa. He was a wonderful cook and a master at barbeque. His mouthwatering ribs were the talk of the town.
Later in life, Edwin explored various art mediums. He was a hobby woodworker, making artfully designed tables, carved pieces, art frames, walking sticks, and even a violin! He painted many impressionist-style paintings, created unique sculptures, and fabricated preserved moss walls that stylishly hang in office buildings in downtown Cleveland. He also enjoyed the art of bonsai. His creativity was as bottomless as the love he gave to those that knew him.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Mary Jane (nee Dore) Blaha; his children, Sarah (Todd Brandewie) Gold and Edwin J. (Tia) Blaha III; and grandchildren, Isabelle and Brett Albrecht. Edwin is survived by his loving family, and he joins his parents, Edwin J. Sr. and Joan Blaha, as well as his fishing buddy, brother, Michael Blaha.
He was a son, a brother, a husband, a father, and a friend.
He was a landscaper, an outdoorsman, a chef, and an artist.
He was one-of-a-kind. He was Ed.
