Edwin Chambers Obituary

Edwin Lorrelle Chambers, lovingly known as "Cotton" in childhood, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in Porterville, California, at the age of 88. Born on September 2, 1937, in Russellville, Arkansas, Ed lived a life marked by faith, hard work, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.

Ed spent his early years in Russellville before moving to California in March 1953 at the age of 15. He attended Anaheim High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically, playing football throughout his high school years and graduating in 1956. His passion for football continued at Orange Coast College in Anaheim, where he served as captain of the team and won their conference that led to an invitation to play in the Potato bowl in Bakersfield. Ed also earned a degree in Petroleum Technology in 1958. Ed's athletic prowess earned him a scholarship to Colorado State University, where he played as a linebacker and was regarded as "the best linebacker on the team." After returning to California in 1959, he attended Cal State Fullerton and graduated in January 1965 with a degree in Business Management.

In December 1960, Ed was drafted into the U.S. Army and served honorably for two years at Fort Ord before continuing his education. He remained in the Reserves until 1966. During this time, Ed began working in farming-a career that would span six decades. His dedication to agriculture started with his first farm job after high school, thanks to the support of his lifelong friend Ted Dinkler and the Dinkler family, who became like a second family to him. From there, Ed Chamber's Farm Management was born. Over the years, Ed also worked in construction, helping build schools in Anaheim, and contributed to oil field operations in Bakersfield.

Ed's love for farming was matched only by his love for people. Known for his loyalty and generosity, he mentored many individuals throughout his life, teaching them the values of integrity, character, and honesty. His friendships were lifelong bonds; among his closest were Al Scheer and Wayne Isom-the "Three Musketeers" of Terra Bella-whose adventures together were legendary.

A man of deep faith, Ed grew up attending church services and Sunday School in a loving Christian home. His spiritual commitment remained steadfast throughout his life. He raised his children while attending First Baptist Church in Lindsay, where he served as a Deacon, and even taught a women's Bible study. Over the years, he worshipped at several churches including the Nazarene Church with his wife Jeri, Landmark Christian Center, New Hope Church, and finally Port Naz when health challenges limited his attendance. Regardless of where he worshipped, Ed's devotion to God was evident in every aspect of his life.

Ed cherished time outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and traveling across the United States. A lifelong Rams fan, he also had a unique hobby of collecting baseball caps and trucker hats. In addition to these pursuits, Ed had a passion for baking-cakes, pies, bread-you name it! He even took a cake decorating class to perfect his craft.

Above all else, Ed treasured his family. He is survived by his devoted wife Jeri; five children: Jaime (Mike) Campbell, Lisa (Ken) Hafker, Greg Chambers, Wendy (Zach) McCarley, and Giselle Wilson; ten grandchildren: Adam, Nate, Emily, Grant, Garrett, Paul, Rashaun, Josiah, William, and Marlowe; one great-granddaughter Ra'Nyah; sister Mary (Fred) Meredith; brother-in-law Leland Skinner; cousin Don Epps; as well as cousins in Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Avo Chambers; brothers Paul Eugene Chambers and Carroll "Bud" Chambers; sister Carolyn Skinner; sister-in-law Thelma Chambers; and his two closest friends Al Scheer and Wayne Isom.

Ed's legacy is one of faithfulness-to God, to his family and friends-and an unwavering work ethic that inspired all who knew him. Those who crossed paths with Ed often described him as "the salt of the earth" or "the nicest man you'll ever meet." One friend commented that "They broke the mold with him". His wife Jeri lovingly called him "one in a million," while Ed often said of her: "You are God's greatest gift to me. I found what real love is."

Edwin Lorrelle Chambers will be deeply missed by all who knew him but will forever remain an example of love and integrity. His memory is cherished by many who look forward to reuniting with him one day through the hope and promise of eternal life. May his legacy bring comfort to those who mourn him now. A Funeral Service will be held on March 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Church of The Nazarene 2005 W. Olive Ave. There will be a viewing from 9-10.
