Passed away peacefully under Hospice care in Naples on his 93rd birthday. His beloved wife of 59 years, Susan Odiorne Cooney, passed away in 2020. He is survived by his devoted children: Leslie (Marc) Sicurella of Buffalo, NY; Lynn Cooney of Naples, FL; and Susan Ghirsig of Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren: Ryan, Caitlin, and Carolyn Sicurella and Chelsey Ghirsig, as well as his dear nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his cherished parents Edwin Robert Sr. and Eunice Packard Cooney and his dear sister Nancy (Edwin) Kolb. Bob is also survived by his faithful friend Puddy cat.
Bob was a longtime North Buffalo resident and parishioner of St. Mark's Parish. He was a graduate of St. Mark School and St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute where he played hockey, rowed crew, and was his class Vice President. He then attended Syracuse University and participated in ROTC training. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served his country. When he returned to Buffalo from the military, he joined his father at the helm of Cooney Air Conditioning, running the business his father founded in 1929. Bob and his father were long standing members of the Rotary Club of Buffalo.
Bob was an accomplished golfer and longtime member of Cherry Hill Club in Ridgeway, Ont.
He spent many years with his family enjoying the Canadian seashore and owned a cottage in Crystal Beach, Ont. where he loved to work in his garden. In retirement, Bob and Susan moved to Foxfire Country Club in Naples and enjoyed many more years of golfing. Bob even scored a hole in one at Foxfire in 2003.
The guiding light in Bob's life was his strong Catholic faith and his devotion to our family.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Buffalo.
