Edwin Montgomery Echols, 86 of Houston passed away November 26, 2023. Edwin was born April 18, 1937, in Mulga, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his parents, Melville and Elizabeth Echols. He is survived by his wife Rebecca of 36 years of marriage. Children; Jeffery Echols (Amy) and Monty Echols (Blaire); Stepchildren, Sam Boyd, Lynn Raridon (Richard), Jeri Raridon, and Keleigh Kretz; Grandchildren, Erin Kozma (Liam), Trey Gagliano, Trey Echols, Matthew Echols, Jake Echols, Ryan Maddox, Seth Boyd, and Alexis Boyd; Great grandchild, Olena Kozma.
Ed grew up in Minor, Alabama and attended Minor High School. He went on to star in three sports, football, baseball, and basketball. He earned a full baseball scholarship to Mississippi State University and graduated in 1959. Upon graduation he became a commissioned officer with the U.S. Army, ultimately rising to the rank of Captain. He went on to have a successful career in the chemical business starting at Allied Chemical, followed by Chromalloy Chemical and Ethyl Corporation, and ending his career as a Sr. Vice President at Texas Aromatics, LP.
Ed enjoyed watching and attending baseball games with family and friends. Golf was his other passion achieving 6 hole-in-ones' throughout his time as a member at Braeburn Country Club. He played many of the most prestigious golf courses in the U.S and Europe but was most proud of getting to play at Augusta National in Augusta, GA. Ed was a true southern gentleman from exquisite dressing to his manners. Becky and Ed enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
A Memorial Service celebrating Ed's life will be held Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at Dettling Funeral Home, 14094 Memorial Dr. Houston, TX 77079 with visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the service starting at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers please donate in Ed's name to the charity of your choice.
