Edwin "Ed" Gemberling, 63, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Northwest Health-La Porte.
Ed was born on February 26, 1963, in La Porte, IN, to James and Virginia (Amor) Gemberling.
Surviving are his children, Adam Gemberling of La Porte and daughter, Audrey (Devin Smythe) Gemberling of Lakewood, CO; sisters, Sherry Shipley of La Porte and Shurla (David) Clark of St. Augustine, FL; mother of his children, Gail Gemberling; and numerous other cousins, family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
As a child, Ed was a member of the La Porte County 4-H Draft Horse and Horse & Pony Clubs. He grew up on a small farm, and his first job was at Agriquip. He started at Kankakee Valley REMC as a groundman and worked his way through the apprenticeship program to become an electrical lineman. Ed then went on to a "second" career as a farmer, taking over Richard Tuholski's grain and dairy farm along with Gail.
Ed was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and La Porte County 4-H Beef Club. He enjoyed helping his kids raise their steers (along with a little frustration) but truly enjoyed his time each year at the fair.
Ed loved the Chicago Bears, watching NASCAR, and listening to classic rock as well as the Bob & Tom Radio Show. He passed along to Adam and Audrey his appreciation of land and love of animals through 4-H animals and family pets. Ed valued the relationships he had with his children, family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Brandon Martin officiating.
A time of visitation will be held from Noon until 2:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
In honor of Ed, please wear your favorite pair of jeans and a comfy shirt.
Memorial donations may be made to the La Porte County 4-H Scholarship Program, PO Box 1653, La Porte, IN 46352.
