Mr. Edwin Thea Hardy, 91, of Chase City, VA entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at the Chase City Health and Rehab Center.
Mr. Hardy, affectionately known as “Brown”, was the second of nine children born to the late Casey and Theora Wood Hardy on April 16, 1934. He was educated in the public schools of Mecklenburg County and graduated from West End High School in 1954. Shortly after graduation, he entered the military and served in the U.S. Army for 2 years. He would later relocate to Pennsylvania where he worked for the Abington School District as a bus driver until retirement. In 2005, he moved back to Chase City and reconnected with Concord Baptist Church where he sang with the Male Chorus, was a groundskeeper and assisted with special projects. Brown was always willing to lend a helping hand. In his spare time, he enjoyed tinkering with things and detailing his cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kelsey L. Hardy and sister, Estell H. Carter.
He leaves to cherish his memory: son, Tony V. Hardy (Stacey); daughter, April Bettelli (Aldo); three grandsons, Marlon Coward (Shawanda) Justin Coward, and Steven Coward (YaVasha); three great granddaughters, YaVasha Coward, Azalea Coward and YaZasha Coward; brother, Alfred J. Hardy (Annie); five sisters, Joan H. Gee, Claudette H. Hutcheson (Nathaniel), Hilda H. Terry (Marshall), Wanda H. Royster (John) and Alice H. Miller; brother-in-law, Garland V. Carter; sister-in-law, Shirley E. Hardy, and a vast number of other loving relatives and caring friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Edwin Thea Hardy will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Sunday, December 28, 2025 at Concord Baptist Church, Chase City, VA with Rev. Raleigh M. Bagley, III officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Public viewing for family and friends will begin on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until 12:45 P.M. at the church.
