Edwin M. Howard Jr.

Edwin "Ed" M Howard Jr. of Hamilton, Massachusetts died on January 13, 2026. He was the beloved husband of sixty years to the late Laura B. Howard, and loving father of Channing Howard of Byfield, and Catherine Galli and her husband Michael of Essex.

He was the devoted grandfather to Michael Galli Jr. and Nathaniel Howard, and brother of the late June Stivers (Howard).

Edwin was a graduate of Burdett College and Northeastern University and was a Staff Sargent in the U.S. Air Force where he was a medic. After the military, he worked at Whitman and Howard Engineering with his father and grandfather. Edwin and Laura then owned and ran Howard's Flying Dragon Antiques in Essex, MA for 52 years.

Edwin was a hard worker and enjoyed telling stories to his customers, always wearing his signature red suspenders. He was also kept busy by maintaining several apartments that he owned with Laura. Ed and Channing also ran a successful auction company in Thorndike, Maine.

He was a stalwart New Englander, ever-involved in the community. He was a member of the Hamilton Planning Board, The Hamilton Historic District Commission, the Essex Merchants Group, and Essex Long Term Planning Committee.

Ed will always be remembered for his love of sailing. His favorite place was on the water, navigating the islands around the coast of Maine on his sailboat, Harmony. He enjoyed steam engines, railroads, trains and history. Edwin spent many enjoyable days with dear friends around his hobbies. If he had a moment, his favorite thing to do was have a cup of tea with a friend and discuss the world.
