Edwin Webster Knight, Jr., 79, of Unity, Maine, passed away on November 22, 2025, following a long illness. He was born on May 17, 1946, in Bangor, Maine, the son of Edwin Webster Knight, Sr. and Arlene (Thompson) Knight.
Ed grew up with a strong sense of family, community, and service-values that guided him throughout his life. For 22 years, he worked as a professional truck driver before becoming the Dispatch Manager for Dysart's Transportation, where he was respected for his work ethic, steady leadership, and unfailing dedication.
A proud member of the Air National Guard, Ed served his state and country with honor. He was also a deeply committed Mason. As a long-standing member of the Grand Lodge of Maine, Unity Lodge #58, A.F. & A.M., he was recently awarded the Grand Lodge of Maine Veteran's Medal in recognition of 50 years of devoted service. His commitment to helping others extended far beyond meetings and ceremonies-one of his greatest joys was working with the lodge each year to assemble bicycles for children in need, a tradition that brought him great pride and happiness.
Ed's interests were as broad as they were heartfelt. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, golf, reading and an interest in history. Yet, above all, Ed believed his greatest achievement-and truest source of joy-was the love he shared with his family. He cherished every moment spent with them and took immense pride in each of their accomplishments.
In his later years, Ed became a familiar and beloved presence in the towns of Unity and Troy. His daily stops for coffee and a newspaper were never just errands; they were opportunities to brighten someone's day. Whether through conversation, a warm smile, or a friendly wave, Ed made connections wherever he went, earning the affection of friends, neighbors, and local shopkeepers alike.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Beverly Rines Knight; his son, Timothy Knight and his husband William Sears, his son, Tracy Knight and his wife, Deborah (predeceased), his grandchildren, Joshua Knight and his wife Amanda,, and his beloved "beautiful girls", granddaughters, Maddie and Maci; his grandson, Jason Knight, his brother, Austin Knight, and his wife Debbie; and his sister, Earlene Athmer. He is predeceased by his sister, Constance Reynolds. Ed also leaves behind many special friends and neighbors, including Stephen Tuttle, Gail Curry, and Apple, all of whom brought joy and companionship to his days.
A Masonic graveside service will be held in the spring, with the date to be announced.
Edwin Webster Knight, Jr. will be remembered for his kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but the warmth he shared will live on in the countless lives he touched. Memories and condolences may be shared with his family on his tribute wall.
