Edwin Munsen, 86, of White Lake, SD, died Friday, July 5, 2024, at his home under hospice care. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 12, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in White Lake. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7:00 PM at the Church with a 6:30 PM prayer service. Arrangements by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Edwin Eugene Munsen was born on November 6, 1937, the oldest of three boys to Charles and Hazel (Krell) Munsen on their family farm in rural White Lake.
Eddie graduated from White Lake High School in 1955. After graduation, he began his lifelong career of farming and ranching.
On November 21, 1957, he was united in marriage to Mary Peters. They were blessed with seven children and were able to purchase the Peters' family farm homestead. In 2014 they moved their farmhouse into White Lake and retired due to Mary's declining health. After moving to town, Ed spent his time taking care of Mary and driving out to the farm to help with whatever work there was that needed to be done.
Ed served on numerous boards for many years, including Aurora County ASCS board, St. Peter's Church council, White Lake schoolboard, and Crystal Lake Township board.
Ed is survived by his four daughters and three sons: Cindy (Jon) Groen, Sioux Falls, SD; Donna (Dale) Beckmann, White Lake, SD; Babs (Bryan) Bowne, Mitchell, SD; Jim (Diane) Munsen; Mark (Tammie) Munsen; Paul (Renee) Munsen; and Tiffany (Jeff) Thiry, all of White Lake, SD. He is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 3 step grandsons, 32 great-grandchildren, 9 step great-grandchildren, along with sisters-in-law, Vivian Munsen, Jeanne Kirsch, Carol Bergquist and brother-in-law, Eldon (Jane) Peters.
Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents; mother and father-in-law, Blandina and Math Peters; great-grandson, Sean; brothers, Ronnie and Gary; brothers-in-law, Duane Peters, Gordon Bergquist, and Rich Kirsch; sisters-in-law, Cherie Munsen, Pat Peters, and Joyce Bradwisch; along with his son-in-law, Al Bollinger.
