Edwin Stephen Pace Jr., 95, of Rogersville passed away Nov. 15 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ed was born June 29, 1929, in Trenton, Georgia.
Edwin was an active member of Rogersville First United Methodist Church where he developed a tremendous mind in Bible knowledge and enjoyed studying each day. There was a mutual love between Ed and his fellow church members. He was active in the church youth program, as well as community youth. Ed had a special desire to help anyone in need.
After attending Chattanooga High School, Edwin graduated from Carson Newman College with a degree in Chemistry. While studying, he worked on cancer research with Dr. Bonner and lettered on the tennis team.
Ed met and married his wife Jean, in Paducah, Kentucky, and later moved to Rogersville. They had two terrific sons, but Edwin was the "boy" that played the most. Later in life, Steve and Stan were the best caregivers to their Dad.
Edwin retired as a chemist from TVA following 37 years of service.
He was active in his community, having served on the Rogersville Election and Water Committees. During the 70s, Edwin wrote for The Rogersville Review and The Kingsport Times, covering high school basketball and football.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents: Edwin and O'Greeta, and a sister: Joyce (Ray) Fuller.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years: Jean; sons: Steve (Linda) Pace and Stan (Kim) Pace, all of Kingsport; a grandson: Dr. Tyler (Betsy) Pace of Greenville, South Carolina; a granddaughter: Hailey Pace VanNoy of Kingsport; a grandson: Jonathan Asher of New York; six great-grandchildren: Asher, Adelaide, Gwen, Caty Pace, Harper and Everly VanNoy; a brother: Charles Pace; and a sister: Judy (Bob) Forester, of Dalton, Georgia.
Family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. Nov. 18 at Rogersville First United Methodist Church. Funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Scott Price officiating.
Interment will follow in McKinney Cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Tom Bundy, Ben Cowan, Tom Crittenden, Larry Pearce, Wes Wilson, and Gabe VanNoy.
