Edwin L. Smith, 100, of Maquoketa, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Edwin Leon Smith was born on March 17, 1924 in Burlington, Iowa, to Paul and Gertrude (Hollenback) Smith. He graduated from high school and then earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Redlands in Redlands, California. He married Norma Geraldine McGaffee on July 14, 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II, earning an honorable discharge.
Upon returning to civilian life, Edwin worked as a credit manager for Thompson-CSF, retiring in 1986 at the age of 62.
Edwin was born in Iowa, lived in Illinois, served in the U.S. Navy, then moved to southern California. He retired to Arizona, and then returned to Maquoketa. He was a member of Faith Community Church in Maquoketa where he enjoyed men's group studying the bible.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Norma Smith of Maquoketa, IA; and a son, Bradley (Stacy) Smith of Ojai, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial luncheon celebrating Edwin's life will be held at 1 P.M., Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Faith Community Church in Maquoketa. A private family burial will be held at a later date at the Hickory Grove Cemetery, rural Monmouth. The Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa is in charge of the arrangements.

His younger brother Bob Smith would have loved to have grown up with Edwin. They spoke on the phone when he had dementia and missed out on brotherhood..
