Edwin Stone Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Millennium Cremation Service - Vero Beach on Dec. 8, 2025.
Edwin Harrison Stone, a Baltimore native and respected attorney who practiced in Baltimore County for 50 years and was a familiar face on the Chesapeake Bay, died Dec. 4 at his home in Vero Beach, Florida. He was 91.
Born in the Summer of 1934, at University Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Harrison - as everyone called him - was the only child of Jesse and Evelyn Harrison Stone. He attended McDonogh School graduating in 1952. He went on to Washington and Lee University graduating in 1956. Harrison served as Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy before earning his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1962.

Harrison began his career as an assistant States attorney in Baltimore County before becoming a partner in the firm of Royston, Mueller, McLean & Reid, where he practiced law until his retirement. He met and later married the love of his life, Barbara Chance of Philadelphia, in the Spring of 1965 settling down in Towson, MD.

On weekends he could usually be found sailing. A past commodore of the Gibson Island Yacht Squadron, he spent his free time enjoying the Ravens and Orioles and playing music. Harrison loved Jazz music playing clarinet and saxophone.

Harrison is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Chance Stone; two sons, Edwin Harrison Stone Jr. and Thomas Martyn Stone; and 5 grandchildren. A service will be held at a later date at Wytheville Baptist Church in Wytheville, Virginia, with burial to follow at East End Cemetery.

Harrison was a great friend of our family! I remember many a Gibson Island Summer Cruise ending in a cockpit serenade from Harrison and his Clarinet. This is a terrific loss and I wish Barbara, Harrison and Tommy all our best!

What a wonderful man! I am so happy for the many years of friendship. I loved hearing him play his saxophone or clarinet when on the boat. His beautiful music echoed through the mooring field. Most folks thought it was coming from one of the houses along Skippers Row, to only find out it was Harrison Stone playing while on his boat "Caroline"

So many great stories, GIYS cruises, playing his clarinet with my younger brother Pat ( and on Tuesday nights at the Old Mill tavern on Harford road (or was it Belair)), dear friend of my parents, his kids playing in the pool when I was a lifeguard.... Boat life all summer, every summer!

So sorry to gear this news. Some of my favorite sailing memories included Harrison and his family. Cruising on the Chesapeake and in New England, recounting the experiences of the day on the water over dinner, and hearing Harrison play his clarinet across the anchorage as we settled in for the night. He greeted everyone with a smile and a personalized story, and would do anything to help a friend in need. He will be missed.
