Edwin Eugene Tidwell, affectionately known as Gene, completed his life's journey on August 21, 2024, surrounded by love and warmth. Born on June 16, 1943, in Primm Springs, Tennessee, Gene's life was a testament to his strength, courage, and indomitable spirit. His life was an embodiment of the quote by John A. Shedd, "A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." Gene, too, was not one to stay anchored; he was a sailor of life's vast ocean, weathering storms with a fierce determination and navigating towards every sunrise with an unwavering spirit.

Gene's loyalty and courage were not only evident in his personal life but were also hallmarks of his professional journey. He served as a proud US Navy Submariner, demonstrating his patriotism and commitment to the country he loved. After serving his nation, he became an instructor in auto education, a role in which he excelled, imparting knowledge and inspiring countless individuals. His strong-willed nature, coupled with his spirited approach to life, made him a beacon of light for many.

His passions transcended his professional life. An all-day coffee drinker, Gene found joy in life's simple pleasures. He was a crafty man who enjoyed woodworking and leatherworking, often losing himself in the intricate details of his creations. He loved reading, each book a new adventure he embarked on with enthusiasm. He loved camping trips in his RV, always ready to explore the great outdoors, and found tranquility in scuba diving. His loyal companions, his dogs Sophie and Lucy, were a constant source of joy and comfort to him.

We encourage friends and family to share memories and upload photos of Gene to the memorial page. Every memory shared will serve as a reminder of Gene's remarkable life and the indelible imprint he left on the hearts of those he touched.
