Edwin L. White

1941 - 2025

Edwin L. White, age 84, of Dallas, GA passed away on Saturday, December 13, 2025, after a brief illness.

Edwin was born on September 4th, 1941, in Floyd Co., GA to the late George Edwin White and the late Mary Virginia Bates White. Edwin was a 1960 graduate of West Rome HS where he enjoyed playing sports and made many friends.

Edwin was drafted into the US Army in 1960 and proudly served his country as a member of the 101st Airborne "Screaming Eagles" unit. Later he made special forces rank of Green Beret before his scheduled deployment to Vietnam in 1964. Edwin was honorably discharged from the Army in 1966 where he returned to Rome, GA.

Eddie, as he was known to his family and friends, was involved in several different businesses throughout his working career including sales. He also had an entrepreneur-spirit, owning and operating several restaurants in the Rome area. Later in his career, he worked for the Internal Revenue Service where he retired in 2007.

Eddie had many hobbies and especially enjoyed music where he was an accomplished musician and played in several bands. He spent many hours playing his keyboard at home. He also loved to fly and was a licensed pilot.

Eddie was a longtime member of West Rome United Methodist Church and a proud veteran and patriot who loved his country deeply. He was a strong veterans advocate and attended weekly meetings at the VET to VET organization in Cartersville, Ga. He enjoyed spending time with other veterans sharing their stories and life experiences.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents George "Ed" and Virginia White. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Evelyn L. White, formerly of Rome; a stepson, Tim Martin (Barbara), of Acworth, GA; grandchildren, Meredith Porter (Chad), Marietta, GA, and Matthew Martin (Madison), Los Angeles, CA; 3 great-grandchildren, Marshall and Pierce Porter and Miles Martin; a sister, Lisa Milner Crisp (Charles L. "Bubba" Crisp) of Sylva, NC; a niece, Mary Elizabeth "Katie" Crisp, also of Sylva; and a brother, Dewey J. "Bubba" Milner of Orlando, FL.

The family would like to thank the staff of Heritage Hospice in Kennesaw, GA for their compassionate care provided to Ed in the final days.

A graveside service with will be held on Saturday, December 27th, at 11:00am at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens in Rome with Pastor David Harper officiating and the Rome American Legion Honor Guard presenting military honors.
