Eileen McDermott Obituary
ALBANY - Eileen F. McDermott, 86, entered Eternal Life Monday, December 15, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born January 1, 1939, in the Inwood section of New York City, Eileen was the first baby born in NYC in 1939, and that was her claim to fame. She was the daughter of Timothy and Mary Kearney.
Eileen met the love of her life, James McDermott, when they were teenagers, and married on September 13, 1958, after he completed his military service.
They made their home in Port Washington, N.Y., where they raised their four children, Michael, Colleen, Maureen and Kathleen. She recently moved to Albany, N.Y., to be closer to her family.
Eileen was a communicant of St. Peter of Alcantara Roman Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and took great pride in her home and memory garden. She cherished her family and was a devout catholic who lived her faith every day.
She was predeceased by her husband, James M. McDermott Jr.; her son, Michael McDermott; and sister, Kathleen Draz.
Survivors include her children, Colleen Sperow (George), Maureen Flood (Jim) and Kathleen Robinson (Scott); grandmother of Bryan Nelson (Megan), Kevin Nelson (Jennifer), Christopher Flood, Ashley Flood, Amanda Flood and Michael Flood; great-grandmother of Winnifred and Marigold Nelson, and Jillian Nelson; aunt of Keven Draz and Dennis Draz.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Eileen's family Friday, December 19, 2025, 12 to 1:30 p.m., at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany, N.Y. 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only.
Eileen's Funeral Mass will follow at 2 p.m., at Christ Our Light Catholic Church, 1 Maria Dr., Loudonville, N.Y. The Rite of Committal will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands, N.Y., immediately following the Mass.
