Eileen Mary Ruane

Eileen Mary Ruane, age 88, of Lexington, Michigan and Sebring, Florida passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. Known her whole life by friends and family as Mary, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, and friends. Mary's passing leaves a large void in the hearts of all who knew her.
Mary was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 1, 1935, the second child of John and Mary O'Keefe, both immigrants from Ireland. Mary graduated from St. Agnes School in Detroit, where she made life-long friends. She married Michael Ruane, Jr. on June 18, 1960. They were married for over 63 wonderful, love-filled years.
Mary and Mike settled in Redford, MI where they raised their five children and were active members of the St. Hilary Parish. They made many good friends in the St. Hilary Parish community. Mary was an active volunteer for the parish and school.
After raising her family, Mary went to work at a secretarial service. After working there for 5 years, Mary bought the business and renamed it 9 to 5 Secretarial Service. She grew her company to over 75 customers and held the company for 10 years until her retirement. She became an indispensable part of her clients' businesses and made many good friends in the process.
Mary's parents built a cottage in Lexington Heights in 1935, where she spent her summers throughout her youth. Mike and Mary built their own cottage in Lexington Heights in 1968 and retired there in 1995. In 2002, Mary and Mike bought a house in Tanglewood, Sebring, Florida and spent six months of the year in Tanglewood over the past 20 years. Mary was an active member of the community and made many good friends there as well.
Mary is survived by her husband Mike and her five children: John (Angela) Ruane, Marie (Bob) Strum, Karen (Bob) Perl, Kevin Ruane, and Bill Ruane as well as her seven grandchildren Ryan, Kari, Billy, Danny, Nina, Trevor, and Jessie Lee as well as many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear sister-in-law Babs (Jim) Rockel and brother-in-law John Ruane. She was preceded in death by her sister Patricia Young.
Mary's life was full of fun, laughter, and many good friends and neighbors. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her for her generosity and selflessness.
Memorial Services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, November 28 at St. Denis Catholic Church, Lexington. Fr. Donald J. Eppenbrock will officiate.
Visitation will be 2-6 PM Monday at the Pomeroy Funeral Home, Lexington, and 10-11 AM Tuesday at the church
