Ronald A. Ruane, age 97, of Rome, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at the Wynn Hospital, after a brief illness.
Ron was born in Rome on August 2, 1928, to the late Leonard and Gretta Colp Ruane and graduated from RFA. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1952. On October 24, 1953, he was united in marriage to the former Barbara Schraml; a blessed union filled with love and memories that lasted nearly 58 years until her passing on April 21, 2011. Ron worked as a manager for several local dealerships including AJ Ryan Motors, Navelli's, and LaMonica Motors.
Ron loved the game of golf, especially when Tiger Woods was on the course. He was also a regular at countless car shows, where he could admire the craftsmanship and connect with fellow enthusiasts. And for more than 60 years, his mornings began at Eddie's Paramount Diner, a cherished routine where he gathered with friends to share stories, laughter, and community.
Ron is survived by his three daughters, Debra (James) Brown of Naples, FL, Lynda (David) Jones of Rome, and Jan (Douglas) Singleton of Rome; his grandchildren, Peter (Rebecca) Jones, Thomas (Denise) Jones, Dr. Steven (Taylor) Jones, Amy Graham-Brown, and Matthew Brown; his great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kyle, Ryan, Khloe, Carter, Owen, Charlotte, and Griffin Jones; several nieces and nephews; his special friends, Dan and Jeanne Kelly; and Joanne Iannotti who was like another daughter and often referred to as their "Italian daughter." Ron was predeceased by his daughter Cynthia June Ruane; his sister, June Hartness; his brother, Leonard Ruane; and his stepfather, James Norton.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to his caregivers, Mary R. and Mary N. and the girls at Betsy Ross for their kindness and compassion shown to Ron and his family. It is greatly appreciated and didn't go unnoticed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 11 AM, at St. Paul's Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
