Eimantas Rytis Karalius was born March 12, 1953, in Toronto, Canada and immigrated to Chicago,
Illinois with his family when he was a child. He was the son of Jurgis and Jadvyga (Dubinskaite) Karalius
and the brother of Medardas "Paul" Karalius. He is survived by his nephew Vytas Karalius with wife
Mary, his sister-in-law, Audrone Pavilcius Karalius, first cousins (on his mother's side) Nijole
Spurgash (Ilekis) John Ilekis and Alfonse Ilekis and their families, his first cousin Birute Staneviciene (on his father's side)
and her family, and many relatives in Lithuania.
After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army and became a member of the elite Special Forces. After his honorable discharge, he attended the
University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts and
sciences. After his graduation he worked a number of professions until beginning a 20-year career
with the BNSF railroad. He retired from the railroad and decided to enjoy his retirement in Costa
Rica. He died of natural causes after spending nearly 10 years in his tropical paradise on February
10, 2024. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Services will be held on May 18, 2024 with details available at Petkus Funeral Homes | Lemont, Illinois. In lieu of
flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local animal shelter.
