Elizabeth Ann "Pepper" Kinzer, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on November 24, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Born on May 13, 1941, in San Antonio, Texas to Jewel Pink (Armstrong) Kincaid and Frank T. Kincaid, she was a lifelong Uvaldean. As a child, Pepper loved attending the glamorous parties organized by her mother Jewel, and was crowned princess and sweetheart to numerous events, she went daily to the Kincaid Hotel and Slade's Saddle Shop to keep up to date on the latest Uvalde happenings. She was very proud of her ranching heritage and spent countless time at her family ranch. Pepper attended school in Uvalde as well as St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio. Upon graduation, she furthered her education at Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas. It was at Sul Ross at a rodeo that she met a young cowboy named Ray Maner. Ray and Pepper were married in 1961 and had three beautiful daughters: Arlene, Cindy and Ginger. Tragically, Ray lost his life in a plane crash in 1975.
Pepper was blessed with another great love, Dr. Richard (Dick) Evans Kinzer, also known as Granddaddy, whom she married on April 27, 1995. They shared a lifetime of love and adventures until Pepper’s passing. They traveled, fished, shopped, loved their families and friends and their dog Chico, played cards, bowled, and enjoyed many happy hours at the Uvalde Country Club and always loved a good mariachi band. Known as Memo to her 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, Pepper made every holiday special with personalized decorations, delicious foods and family games and fun.
Pepper was a talented artist and crafter, finding joy in decorating her home. She was an accomplished seamstress, creating countless dresses and costumes for her daughters and granddaughters. She was always stylish and put-together and never left the house without makeup and jewelry. A woman of faith, Pepper was a cradle to grave member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church and was a welcome and familiar sight at the 8 a.m. service on Sunday mornings.
Pepper is survived by her loving husband, Richard, and daughters: Arlene Nanney (Les), Cindy Jacobs (David), Ginger Jones (David), Dawn Walker (Randy) and Lisa Frizzell. She also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Robert Nanney (Brittany), Riley Garcia (Travis), Melanie Seelig (Evan), Jennifer Klaus, Michelle Meadows (Donell), Taylor Jacobs (Megan), Ellie Gear(Kevin), Hannah Jones, Bailey Tamplen (Tyler), and Courtney Stouder (Josh), and 10 precious great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on December 9, 2024, at St. Philips Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Phillips Episcopal Church in memory of Pepper Kinzer.
