Elaine Demos, 88 of Wilmington, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2026.
Born on May 23,1937 in Chicago, Illinois, Elaine was a 55-year resident of the Joliet area before making her home in Wilmington over the past ten years. She lived a full life centered on family, friendship, and a warm sense of humor that stayed with her to the very end.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, John Demos, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and partnership.
She is lovingly survived by her son, Nick Demos of Wilmington; her daughter, Lee Ann (Michael) Cardwell of Shorewood; her cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth and John Cardwell, who brought her endless pride and joy; and her sister Grace Gregorich of Wilmington. She is also survived by her "favorite child", her devoted little black pug, Cole, who rarely left her side.
A 1954 graduate of Lockport Township High School, Elaine began her career at Commonwealth Edison before dedicating herself to raising her family. In the 1980's and 1990's, she became a familiar and friendly presence at Casual Corner, where she took great pride in helping women feel confident as she outfitted them in the power suits of the era. Later, she and her son co-owned Al Cappucino's in Lemont and Indulge Liquors in Plainfield, where she enjoyed meeting people and staying connected to her community until her retirement.
Elaine will be remembered most for her devotion to her family, and the love she poured into being a wonderful mother and proud grandmother. She found her happiness in caring for those she loved and in the simple, everyday moments spent together.
Per Elaine's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Private family services will be held at a later date.
