Elaine Marie Giles, a cherished and fun-loving soul known for her loving nature, kind heart, and her inquisitive mind, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on October 16, 2025, in Danvers, Massachusetts. Born on October 6, 1942, in Santiago, Chile, Elaine's life was a testament to her enduring spirit and her capacity to touch the lives of those around her with grace and warmth.
Her journey took her from the landscapes of her birthplace to the historic charm of New England, where she built a life rich in love and community. She shared a beautiful marriage with her devoted husband, John, and together they raised a family that was the center of Elaine's world. Elaine took pride in the accomplishments of her daughter, Audrey Tarr, and her son-in-law, Raymond Kimball Tarr, III, and her son, John Giles, and her daughter-in-law, Melisa Giles. Elaine's joy was multiplied by the laughter and adventures of her grandsons, Duncan and Collin Tarr, Trevor Giles, and her granddaughter, Emily Giles. She truly treasured every moment spent with them. Her sister Alicia Nova and brother, Henry Delporte, and sister-in-law, Mary Delporte, along with her nieces and nephews, held a special place in her heart, as she did in theirs.
Professionally, Elaine was a respected accountant for the engineering department of Osram Sylvania in Danvers, MA, where her meticulous work and dedication to excellence were evident in every task she undertook. She was an active member of her community, participating in various groups and activities that reflected her diverse interests and her commitment to lifelong learning and engagement.
Elaine's interests were as varied as they were passionate. An avid tennis player and golfer well into her 70's, Elaine's competitive spirit and love for the games were infectious. Her Mahjong group was a source of joy and camaraderie, as were the many book clubs she belonged to, where she shared her love for literature and spirited discussions.
Travel was another passion of Elaine's and she returned to her birthplace of Santiago several times over the years. In addition, she enjoyed traveling to such places as France, Italy, and Aruba, which is a reflection of her curious nature. Along with her international journeys she took delight in the simple pleasure of journeying north to 'The Camp' where she could sit on the deck, watch the birds, and look out at the beloved mountains called Percy Peaks.
Elaine's appreciation for the arts was profound, and she found great pleasure in attending the ballets performed by the Boston Ballet, an experience she treasured and looked forward to with anticipation. When she was a little girl she had a dream of becoming a dancer, and her presence at these cultural events was a reflection of her admiration for the beauty and discipline of the performing arts.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Elaine will remember her for the words that best describe her: loving, kind, and inquisitive. She was a beacon of light and love, radiating warmth and generosity to all who crossed her path. Elaine's legacy is one of enduring love, a life well-lived, and the countless memories she created with those she held dear.
As we bid farewell to Elaine Marie Giles, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the indelible impact she made on the lives of her family, friends, and community. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and her memory will be cherished forever. She will truly be missed.
She did love flowers and would appreciate them but she did love the ballet just as much so as an option in lieu of flowers donations can be made in Elaine's memory to the Boston Ballet at bostonballet.org.

Earlier today

Rick and I had the privledge of meeting Elaine thru Beach Rose RV Park back in 2017. A very pleasant well travelled lady who shared the game of Mahjong on several visits when she came. The loss of a parent is heart wrenching but the love they have for you helps to heal. Love and prayers for the Giles family.

Yesterday

Oh, the memories go back to the night I was born and your mother accompanying mine to the hospital since my father was on call that night. The shared adventures in Chile, playing in the little plaza near our home as babies, the birthday parties at my grandparent's house, with your cousin Livia among us, the reshaping of our lives in this county, and both ending up living in NewEngland not far from each other. My steps seem to have followed yours, much as our mothers' folowed each other. May you rest in peace, dear friend, though it is hard to believe that you are no longer among us. Chaito, un abrazo fuerte - Sandra
