Elaine Rose Hellums (nee Skinner), age 78, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away unexpected but peacefully on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. She was born on May 1, 1946, in Gary, Indiana.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Deborah (Gregory) Martin of New Carlisle, IN; three grandsons, Zachary Martin, Nathan (Michaela Gray) Martin, Andrew Martin; two great-granddaughters, Lucy Elaine Martin, Caroline Gonzalez; great-grandson, Oliver Gray; two brothers in law, David Krasoczka, Karl Langbehn; two sisters in law, Brenda Newcomer, Juanita Skinner; 3 nephews, George Krasoczka, Michael (Leslie) Krasoczka, Matthew Langbehn(Godson); three nieces, Martha (Gil) Fuentes, Melissa Lynn, Rebecca (David) Connell; and many extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Georgantas (nee Skinner); father, George Georgantas; two sisters, Martha Krasoczka, Helen Langbehn; two brothers, Michael Ray Newcomer, Robert A. Skinner.
Rose retired in July 2022. To be close to her grandchildren and babysit her great-grandchildren, she moved to New Carlisle on October 1,2022.
Her hobbies were bird watching, watching food network. Springtime she hunted morel mushrooms. She loved to camp and take road trips.
Rose was known by many names. She loved and cherished each person that called her; Yia Yia, Grandma-Yia Yia, Miss Rosie, Momma Rose, Thia Rose, and Flowers.
A Celebration of Rose's Life will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 10:00 am at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024 from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at https://www.cff.org/donate
