Elaine Loeffler Libovicz, 87, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2025, at Park Place of Elmhurst where she had spent her final years.

Born in Joliet, Illinois, Elaine made Elmhurst her home for more than 65 years, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and community. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Basil, her sister, Theresa Bolte (née Loeffler), and her brother, Edward Loeffler. She leaves behind her children James, Kenneth, Amy (David) Reeter, and Cara (Kevin) Hovorka; her cherished grandchildren Mitchell (Mary) and Daniel (Jenna DeVries) Reeter, Kevin and Bradley Lynch, Hannah and Lucas Libovicz; and many nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Elaine.

Elaine earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from Dominican University in River Forest, Illinois, reflecting her commitment to her Catholic faith and her firm belief in education. Guided by those values, she dedicated herself to making a difference in the lives of others. She was an active member and leader of many organizations, including the League of Women Voters, American Association of University Women, Rotary International, and the Piece Makers Quilt Guild. Her commitment to public service led to elected roles as DuPage County board member, Elmhurst city clerk, and most recently city treasurer of Elmhurst. In recognition of her decades of service, she was honored with the Darrell Whistler Special Service Award in May 2023. Elaine also had a long list of passions that included reading, physical fitness, quilting, playing bridge, the arts, and international travel.

Elaine will be remembered not only for her accomplishments, but also for her generosity, wit, and unwavering devotion to the Elmhurst community. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, inspiring all who knew her to lead with purpose and kindness.

Elaine favored brilliant colors, and she asked that people wear bright colors (rather than black) to her funeral. Visitation to be held on Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Elmhurst Community Funeral Home – THE AHLGRIM CHAPEL, 567 S. Spring Road, Elmhurst, IL. Funeral Mass on Friday, September 5, 2025 beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Visitation Catholic Church, 779 S. York Street, Elmhurst, IL. Private interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Dominican University (www.dom.edu) will be appreciated.
